ENGLISH PLUMS
There are many varieties of plums grown in and around the Vale of Evesham. Within our 35 aches of plum orchard we grow the following varieties:
herman, heron, swan, belle, prolific, bountiful, sanctus hubertus, avalon, opal, czar, president, victoria, damson, damasenes, marjorie's seedling
yellow egg, purple pershore, greengage, warickshire droopers, monach, burbank.
Each of these ripen at different times during the plum season,starting in mid July and finishing mid to late September.
The most popular variety of plum is the Victoria, the classic english plum has become a household name to those not buying plums in the supermarket! This plum offers a sweet taste and is very popular as a dessert plum but also makes brilliant jam or even syrup.
DAMSON-a small dark plum, often used for cooking, jam and liqueors. The damson season is fairly long and this often hard fruit is widely available.
BELLE-a huge plum, dark red in colour when ripe. can be used for anything, we would recommend cooking,crumbles are definatly a hit!
Greengage-a personal favourite,very sweet round green-yellow plum.gorgeous anyway you want to eat them!
PURPLE PERSHORE-as the name suggests,purple in colour, very good for stewing and jams. local to worcestershire, originating from 1877.
REEVES-a large red and round plum, good for eating and cooking. originally from canada in 1940.
